Artist Statement:

In my art practice, I focus on the contemporary interpretation of cultural heritage, self-growth, narratives, and identity exploration. The symbolic narrative of classical Chinese painting has always been a great source of inspiration for me. Through the digital medium of Procreate, I reproduce in my art practice, I focus on the contemporary interpretation of cultural heritage, self-growth, narratives, and identity exploration. Through the digital medium of Procreate, I reproduce ink and wash with pixels and modernize the expression of classical aesthetics by fusing the precision of digital technology with traditional brushstrokes. For me, art represents symbols and the process of visual narrative and metaphors. I try to connect cultural heritage and modern individual experience, inviting viewers to recall history and examine themselves. I hope the audience sees not only the images but also the recurring themes of courage, peace, and strength that continue to resonate across different eras.

Project Description:

This project explores the pursuit of self-improvement and ideal character traits through symbolic representations in Chinese culture. Through four digital paintings, I depict an eagle, a lion dance, a pigeon, and a carp, each embodying a quality I aspire to develop within myself. Inspired by the traditional Chinese concept of “The Four Gentlemen,” which represents virtues through plants, I reinterpret this idea using animals and cultural symbols. Created using Procreate, these paintings emulate the expressive style of traditional Chinese painting while blending classical techniques with a contemporary approach. Together, these works reflect my personal journey toward growth, balance, and honoring tradition in a modern context.
