Artist Statement:

My artistic style in new media arts explores the repetition and ritualistic nature of urban life through digital media / manipulation. Having lived my entire life in the city, the structures have made me feel a sense of comfort and oppression. Using still images, I experiment with distortion, repetition, and fragmentation to reflect the cycles of daily life both predictable and surreal. Although the work I’ve done thus far has only included still images, I aim to incorporate motion, possibly interactivity in future creations to further enhance the experience of urban life. I hope my work allows viewers to question their own relationship with the city and their daily life routines.

Project Description:

This project explores the themes of repetition. The goal is to see how repetitive day-to-day life has become in the city. With each piece of work I’ve made, I hope that the viewer is able to come to the same conclusion and further develop their own ideas about life in the city. We all know the architecture and flow of the city can be tiring—the continuous rows of skyscrapers and buildings. A jungle of concrete. The repetition and distortion reflect the monotonous, almost mechanical cycle of urban life.
