High Art, Low Effort

Artist: Tony Gao

Medium: Video

Artist Statement:

As an artist, I’ve always been interested in time and its relationship with the world. So, my first film demonstrated this through the top’s still-like movements as it spins. As for my second film, it highlighted the idea of time’s movements, where people inevitably settle down their lives. As they stand by each other, reminiscing, reflecting, and waiting. My films showcase time’s effect on motion, where the top represents youth, success, and an illusion of eternity, while the other film highlights the relationship between people, especially, what remains after.
