Artist Statement:
One major link between my current Capstone project and the two capstone project Capstone Project, I had taken a different approach and wanted to focus on something deeper than soccer. I decided to speak on institutionalized racism, representation, and racial incidents involving players. I wanted to discuss how these problems still exist in the game today. My love for soccer and sports in general has enabled me to create work that I am proud of and use new learned skills to show a creative side of myself.
Project Description:
The aim for this project is to display and discuss the idea of diversity, representation, and opportunities for young talents in the football world. More specifically, I would like to explore these ideas revolving around Premier League club, Chelsea F.C. I used the medium of a digital website that includes a photo gallery, with a separate page going more in-depth about a recent event regarding a player who did something controversial. The main message I would like to convey is that football is deeper than men kicking a ball on a field. Through my project, I am able to express racial, discriminatory, representational, and ageism issues through the practice of sports.
