Artist: Maite Baquerizo
Medium: Video
Artist Statement:
My artistic practice in new media is centered on feminist discourse, questioning the ways in which we reinforce or resist patriarchal structures. Through my projects, I have consistently explored themes of gender, power, and using digital tools to disrupt conventional narratives. Whether through interactive installations, multimedia storytelling, my work engages with contemporary feminist issues such as how women are perceived in the media and the labor of women in a “men society”. By blending activism with artistry, I want to create provoking experiences that encourage critical reflection and push for greater equity.
Project Description:
My project explores feminism in the past and present, examining how media and technology shape perceptions of gender, power, and identity. Through a collage of videos and pictures I highlight the ways in which we still try to find more women’s representation, safety, and autonomy. This project tries to immerse you in a variety of feelings described by the narrative. By using new media as both a critical and creative tool, I aim to challenge different narratives and encourage more people to step on this constant battle for a better future for women in this contemporary society.
